  • Abstract:

This paper aims to examine the relationship between real estate development in Saudi Arabia and a funding programme established by its government for increasing the housing stock. A descriptive analysis of recent activities in housing production shows that the programme has become a highly profitable vehicle for real estate investment, and yet nowadays the real estate business is facing some problems. It is suggested that a new orientation towards large-scale estate development is needed to alleviate the difficulties. The results of a feasibility assessment of such a case using the funding programme corroborate this suggestion based on investment return.
